Regista, documentarista, produttrice.
Nata a Bari, vive tra Milano e la Puglia. Dopo gli studi classici, si laurea in Scienze della Comunicazione con Laurea Specialistica in Cinema all’Università di Bologna, col massimo dei voti.
Frequenta workshop di regia e sceneggiatura (con G. Tornatore, A. Kiarostami), fotografia e produzione (con N. Giuliano e L. Cerri), poi inizia la carriera di filmmaker.
L’urgenza di raccontare il presente della sua generazione la porta a iniziare un progetto di documentario, raccogliendo, in un viaggio intorno al mondo, le storie dei giovani Italiani emigrati, documentandone la frammentazione identitaria: diventerà il suo primo lungometraggio, “Emergency Exit – young Italians abroad”, con cui vince i Premi per miglior regia e miglior film in numerosi festival internazionali. Emergency Exit , fra i 20 progetti selezionati agli Italian Doc Screenings, si sviluppa fino ad arrivare su BBC e Guardian e viene completato grazie a una produttrice americana, B. Di Santo. Nel 2014 il film è in concorso al Festival del Cinema Europeo e poi in molti altri festival, vincendo premi ed arrivando ad una proiezione presso il Parlamento Europeo. Oggi Emergency Exit è in tour mondiale ed è distribuito da Netflix, iTunes e Google Play, accompagnato da una rassegna stampa che lo vede su Internazionale, Repubblica, Corriere, Linkiesta.
Nel 2013, grazie alla vittoria del bando Principi Attivi, Brunella fonda con il suo team una casa di produzione indipendente, OffiCinema DOC, basata in Puglia. Nel 2015 vince il Regional Film Fund di Apulia Film Commission, con cui produce e dirige ‘Emergency Exit – La serie web’, una serie web tratta dall’omonimo film, composta da 5 episodi visibile sul web.
Il suo ultimo film lungometraggio è "Alla Salute", uscito nel 2018, con cui ha vinto i premi di Pubblico e Giuria al Biografilm International Film Festival 2018, selezionato in molti Festival fra cui il prestigioso HotDocs di Toronto e il Thessaloniki Film Festival.
Attualmente è in preparazione con i prossimi progetti di documentario, ‘Sea Sisters’ selezionato ai Pitching del LisbonDocs, IDS e MIA MARKET di Roma e ‘A place to call Europe’, vincitore di SmartItUp di Cariplo.

Director, producer and visual artist, based between Milano and Bari.
She enrolls at the University of Bologna, where she obtains her Batchelor’s Degree in Communication studies and her Master’s degree in Cinema with a maximum score.
She participated in directing and script-writing workshops (with G. Tornatore, A. Kiarostami), as well as in those dedicated to photography and production (with N.Giuliano producer of ‘The Great beauty’).
In 2011, the urge to portray the present situation of her own generation encouraged her to make her first feature documentary film about young Italians who emigrated to different parts of the world, searching for happiness and self-realization. The film, entitled “Emergency Exit – Young Italians Abroad”, won numerous Awards at International festivals, such as Best Direction and Best Film. The rough-cut, which was among twenty film projects selected by the Italian Doc Screenings, was developed successfully with the help of crowdfunding, reaching BBC WORLD and The Guardian. The documentary was completed thanks to the American producer Beth Di Santo. In 2014 it was screened also at European Parliament in Bruxells, and in more than 100 venues in the world. Nowadays, ‘Emergency Exit’ has been distributed on Netflix, iTunes and Google Play. After winning the Principi Attivi Competition in 2013, Brunella founded, together with her team, an independent production house based in Apulia named Officinema Doc. In 2015, she won the Apulia Film Commission’s Regional Film Fund and subsequently directed and produced “Emergency Exit – Webseries”, a web series based on the namesake film, consisting of five episodes. Her second documentary ‘Alla Salute’ presented at Biografilm Festival in competition, won the Lifetales Award for Best Film and the Audience Award 2018. Today she is working on her next documentary film, “Sea Sisters”, selected at the Pitching of LisbonDocs, MIA MARKET, APULIA FORUM and Antipitch Medimed 2016.
